Nino is an Italian living alone in Switzerland trying to make enough money to send for his wife and children. After a series of low paying, manual labor jobs, he finds himself working in a Swiss restaurant, vying with the "Turk" for a permanent waiter position. Naturally, several events conspire which cause his bosses to release him from his job, thus sending Nino into a downward spiral as he struggles valiantly to retain his dignity as well as finding a way to regain his working papers, without which he must leave Switzerland and return to Italy, a failure.

Man rowing a hire type skiffing boat (badly) at the very start and a very distant shot of a scull rowing across lake Geneva abour half way into the film. Blink and you will miss it.. (Quit a funy film though - if you don't mind subtitles)
